Fleur di Lis Earrings
Fleur di Lis Earrings
Symbolism: Through this legend the fleur-de-lis came to symbolize life, perfection, and light. Clovis' use of the fleur-de-lis as a symbol of his successful reign carried on throughout the years, but was adopted officially by the French monarchy in the twelfth century.
The English translation of "fleur-de-lis" (sometimes spelled "fleur-de-lys") is "flower of the lily." This symbol has been described by some as depicting a stylized lily or lotus flower, but other historians attribute its origin to a species of wild iris, the Iris pseudacorus.
It may come as no surprise that an emblem found all over the state of Louisiana has its roots in a flower from French culture, stemming from the French colonization of the Americas, particularly present day Louisiana.
